Garden Design

Elevate your outdoor living experience with my comprehensive garden design services at Greenspace

Designed Around You: In-Person or Remote Professional garden design should be accessible, whether you’re just around the corner or across the country. I offer a choice between On-Site Consultations and a Full Remote Design Service to suit your location and lifestyle. Both pathways provide you with my signature 'Visual Roadmap'—a detailed design package that clarifies your costs and mirrors your aspirations. You provide the space; I provide the expertise to ensure your garden becomes the best investment you’ve ever made in your home.

How it works

Initial Consultation (In-Person & Remote)

Once you have contacted Greenspace with some details about your project, I will be in touch to arrange an initial consultation call to understand your requirements, discuss what is possible from the site, figure out if in-person or remote design is right for you and give you an opportunity to hear about our design philosophy and understand the fees.  There is no charge for this meeting and an email will be sent to you with a recap of what we discussed along with a fee quote.

We begin with an on-site consultation to discuss your vision and how you’ll truly use the space. I’ll assess your garden’s technical features—including levels, aspect and light and will personally measure the site—while we explore your ideas and inspiration to ensure the final design perfectly aligns with your goals.

Site Visit & Survey (In person visit)

To create a precision design from a distance, I just need three things from you. This data acts as my "eyes" on the ground:

1. The Photographic Survey

I need to see the space from every angle to understand the light, the views, and the "feel" of the site.

  • Panoramic Views: Take photos looking out from the back door and from the very bottom of the garden looking back at the house.

  • The "Nasty" Bits: Don’t be shy—take photos of manhole covers, unsightly bins, or neighboring windows. These are the problems I’m here to solve!

  • The Context: A quick video walk-through on your phone is incredibly helpful for me to see how the spaces connect.

2. The Dimension Sketch

You don’t need to be an architect; a simple hand-drawn "birds-eye" sketch on a piece of paper is perfect.

  • The Boundaries: Measure the length and width of the garden.

  • The Anchor Points: Mark the position of the back door, any existing trees you’re keeping, and the distance from the house to any permanent structures (like a shed or garage).

  • The Levels: Note if the ground slopes significantly or if there are any existing steps.

3. The Lifestyle Brief

This is where we talk about the "soul" of the garden.

  • Inspiration: Send me 5–10 images of gardens you love (website links or screenshots work great).

  • The 'Real Life' List: Tell me your must-haves. Whether it's "space for a 6-seater table," "a dog-friendly lawn," or "somewhere to hide the kids' trampoline," this helps me design for your daily reality.

Site Survey Guide for Remote Design Clients

Next, I translate our discussions into a detailed layout plan. This package includes sketches and sections to help you visualise your new space, along with curated suggestions for materials, lighting, and planting. We’ll refine the design together, ensuring every detail reflects your vision until it perfectly matches your expectations. I will provide you with a cost estimate for the different project elements and discuss with you the full project build or phasing of the build.

Design Concept

Once the design concept is signed off and materials to be used agreed, constuction detailing maybe required in order to obtain accurate quotations and build instructions to ensure the highest build quality. I have a list of tradesmen and contractors I know and trust. Although sometimes clients wish to use their own landscape contractors for this stage.

Build Process & Project Monitoring

Let me handle the stress of the implementation. My Project Monitoring service includes managing the tender process with vetted contractors I know and trust. Throughout the build, I conduct regular site visits to oversee progress and resolve issues immediately. I ensure the final result is executed perfectly and efficiently, giving you complete peace of mind that your investment is in safe hands so you can simply relax and watch your garden take shape.

A beautiful garden depends on the right plants in the right places. I create bespoke planting schemes tailored to your soil type, light, and lifestyle. Whether you want a low-maintenance sanctuary or a year-round floral display, I ensure every plant is chosen to thrive, protecting your investment and ensuring your garden flourishes for years to come.
